Pope Francis encourages those who serve through performing sacred music and singing, saying:
“They help the faithful feel attracted to beauty, elevating them towards God, and uniting hearts in praise and tenderness.”
“I recommend that you help the people of God sing with active and conscious participation in a liturgy.”
We are very fortunate to have had a rich history of music ministry at St Augustine’s over the years. Currently there are three groups, with different styles of music making, who all help to support the people of God:
The 9.15 Mass is accompanied by singers and musicians who will also play for funerals and weddings if available. They practise regularly. As a group they love to hear the congregation raise their voices for the glory of God. Contact Rachel McGovern rachel.cruse@ntlworld.com.
The 6.30 Mass is also supported by a group of musicians, who offer a prayerful, soulful accompaniment to the Mass. The group practice from 5.30 before Mass. Contact Becci Connor: becciconnor17@gmail.com.
The Parish Choir provides sacred music for mid- week solemnities, Easter Vigil, some Feasts and memorials. It is an SATB choir who sing classical church music from 16th to 20th centuries. They rehearse regularly. Everyone is welcome. Contact Nicola at nicreeves76@hotmail.com.
